Volcano Emergency

When Japan’s Sakurajima volcano showed signs of erupting on August 16, the country’s agency that monitors volcanoes asked JAXA to perform an “emergency observation” with its DAICHI-2 satellite. The spacecraft sent back data that showed how the ground was moving (right) to assist with possible disaster preparation.
