Ben Scott’s Stearman, from Reno, Nevada, carried the mail during 1938’s National Air Mail Week, piloted by Scott’s father, who bought the Stearman brand-new. In the 1960s, the airplane served as a crop duster. In the 1970s, an Antique Airplane Association member owned the airplane and eventually sold it to Ben (pictured). He also flew mail in the 4E on the 75th anniversary of Scheduled Air Mail Service in 1993. This year it flew mail from Blakesburg to Ottumwa to Iowa City and back on August 30.

I remember seeing the two Sikorsky flying boats owned by
Martin and Osa Johnson at the Chanute Airport about 1933 or 1934. We lived in Chanute, Kansas at the time, and took
photographs of both planes (unfortunately, none of the photos exist today).
