According to Kevin McCarthy, author of Aviation in Florida, Eastern Air Lines started by delivering mail between Miami and Jacksonville in a tiny biplane, years later inaugurating one-day service between New York and Miami with the motto “From frost to flowers in just eight hours.” The motto was turned into a jingle for the company in 1941. By February 1944, Eastern’s monopoly of the New York-Florida vacation market was broken, when National Airlines was awarded a route.
