In late 1945 my father, Jose Antonio Vega, Sr. assembled his recenlty purchased Piper Cub J-3 that had arrive in a crate from Piper's palnt in Lock Haven Pennsylvania. My mother had to learn the stitches used in prepring the linen used to cover the airframe. My father was true pioneer in Cuban aviation that worked with Coronel Domingo Rosillo in promoting civil aviation in Cuba. The Piper Cub was registered as CUN-1- the first privately registered aircraft under the civilian Comision Nacional de Transporte. Prior to the Revolution my father was and inspector for the Cuban CAC- the equivalent of the early CAB- the predecessor of the FAA-that certified aircraft for flight in Cuban airspace and his proudest moment was the inspection and certification of the first Bristol Britannia of Cubana de Aviacion. My father also investigated the crash of a Vickers Viscount that was hijcaked by Castro's terrorist goons. The 1957 crash, in Bahia de Nipe, killed all aboard after the crew fought the hijackers. I also have a picture from early 1950's of my father with an elderly Domingo Rosillo getting off my father's Stinson Voyager after a flight from Santiago. I have several old pictures of my father as a pilot and motorccyle stuntman riding an old Indian bike. True treasures for my children and grandchildren but I would like to share them
