The Avenger was used as a torpedo bomber and a dive bomber by the U.S. Navy during World War II. Manufactured first by Grumman, then by General Motors (the TBM model), the Avenger was the heaviest single-engine aircraft of the war and was the first design to feature folding wings for easy storage on an aircraft carrier.
