The Two Bobs

George John Walton of Dalton, Georgia writes: My stepfather, Bob Goodwin (on right), standing with Bob Doty (on left). Goodwin is from Townsend, MA and Doty is from Chicago, IL. Both were combat medics in the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1967-1968. This picture was taken during action in the Hobo Woods, near Tay Ninh in 1968. I believe the dustoff helicopter they are standing by is a Bell UH-1b Iroquois, of which they both came to become very familiar. Both men are still great friends and get together as often as possible.

The helicopter appears to be a UH-1D model because of its larger cabin compartment and many were in service during the time frame mentioned, virtually replacing the B model for troop and medevac transport services for the Army then. The H model was just coming into use then. I flew many A, B, D & H models, as well as the C & M model gunships in those and later years. These were the "DC-3" of helicopters with many memories.
