Captain Wingrove Returns Home
Flip Wingrove, Captain USMCR (ret.) of Port Townsend, Washington writes: I am holding my 2-month old daughter for the first time, having just returned from a 14-month tour in Japan flying Marine Corps F3D nightfighters. In the late 1940s, a few high-profile test pilots at Muroc Army Airfield (later Edwards AFB) started to sport handle bar mustaches as a badge of their profession. Some of us Marine aviators in the Far East thought this was a style worth copying.
