Discovery's Tail-Cone Fitting
Julian Leek of Melbourne Beach, Florida writes: Before a shuttle can fly on the back of its courier aircraft there is a fiberglass tail-cone fitted over the engine bells. Discovery is being fitted with its tail-cone in the Orbital Processing Facility. This cone displaces the air to make the flight aerodynamically safe. Once on the ground the cone is taken off and can be used again.
