"Makin" It In A B-52 (Part 2)

Vince Petrie of Arroyo Grande, California writes, "The attached [photo is] from my father-in-law, Roy Barton, who served on Makin Island in the Gilberts in [World War II]. His message to me that accompanied the [photo] is included below."
Roy writes, "[I] was able to dig up a couple of [photographs] from when we were on Makin Island in the Gilbert Islands. [This] photo is, to my recollection, a model 'H' with the cannon in the nose. You can see the hole for it on the plane's nose lower (plane's) right side. It was claimed that it almost instantly slowed the planes speed 10 mph when fired."
The aircraft in this photograph is a B-25 Mitchel Bomber.
