Me and My Shadows

From his Cessna 172, photographer George Perks caught this formation of eight biplanes lined up one late summer afternoon at Felts Field, Spokane, Washington. From front to back (right to left) the group began with a Stearman C3B chased by three more Stearmans in sun yellow; a Stearman 450; a Boeing 40C; a Travelair; and another 450 Stearman in trail. Perks has a knack for showing vintage aircraft in their best light, whether coaxing mailplanes from the shadows for their 90th anniversary flight in 2008, or stepping into sunlight for his own profile.
