Jet Power
JetLev, the maker of the Flyer personal jetpack, explains that "even F/A-18 E/F fighter jets can barely overcome the force of gravity." To help its customers, or perhaps the Air Force, overcome this pesky limitation, JetLev has located its propulsion system on a vessel separate from the strapped-on pack, in a boat-like unit that skims along the surface while the pilot rises up to 30 feet above with enough control to perform backflips and aerial maneuvers. Its flight controls can be operated with a few ounces of pressure, though its nozzle thrust blows a frothy wake. Luckily, "Although falling from height or at speed is inherently risky, from our experience falling from the JetLev Flyer is rare."
