New Blue Marble
This stunning "Blue Marble" view of Earth was taken by NASA's newest polar-orbiting environmental satellite, launched in October. Renamed Suomi after the late meteorologist Verner Suomi, the satellite circles the Earth 14 times daily, producing some of the highest resolution images ever taken of the planet, such as this composite of swaths collected on January 4. See the original 8,000-pixel image here, and read how it was made.
