Welcome Campers
Members of the Air Force or Reserve with dependent teenage children can choose among three camps this summer. For just the cost of transportation, teens can attend either Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, Leadership Camp in San Antonio (above), or Teen Aviation Camp at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Campers learn the ropes of each profession, sometimes literally via rope courses, and experience some aspects of basic training. At Space Camp that means Shuttle simulations, while the Academy takes teens aloft in a Cessna 145. Though academically rigorous, teen camps are less grueling than the real thing, such as this camp experience for an Air Force combat squadron.
