Drifting Down
At first glance this appears to be a colorful jellyfish swimming through shallow water, but this is some drifting of the aerospace variety. This was a test of the CST-100 capsule's parachute system as it falls back to Earth during a successful drop test on May 2, 2012. The CST-100 is Boeing's entry into NASA's Commercial Crew Development (CCDev) competition for vehicles that can carry crew to and from the International Space Station. Last week a helicopter took CST-100 up to 10,000 feet, where it parachuted down to the Delmar Dry Lake Bed near Alamo, Nevada, cushioned by six inflated air bags upon landing.
