Tilt-Rotor Training
Photographer Scott Youmans rode along on a Weapons and Tactics Instructor flight aboard a KC-130J on April 11, 2012. Six MV-22B Ospreys and the Hercules trained for a long-range raid between Yuma, Arizona and Las Cruces, New Mexico, where the conditions resemble some of those in Afghanistan. Youmans tells us they flew "at very low altitude with considerable atmospheric turbulence." In this image, one of the Ospreys is practicing in-flight refueling, which they also did again at night.
