A "Fini Flight"
Last Thursday, July 12, U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff General Norton Schwartz climbed aboard an MC-130 Combat Talon I to commemorate a long career. His last flight as an active officer was, naturally, on a similar plane to that he began he began training on in 1973 after graduating from the Air Force Academy. He flew C-130s in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and was a crewmember during the evacuation of Saigon, among many other assignments that racked up over 4,400 hours in the air. Schwartz's official retirement starts on August 10; tomorrow, Congress will hold confirmation hearings for President Obama's nominee, General Mark Walsh.
