Angels Over Altus
A formation of Navy Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornets from Naval Air Station Pensacola (Florida) follow a KC-135 Stratotanker from Altus Air Force Base on the way to Grand Juction, Colorado, to perform in the First Mountain West Airshow. The Blue Angels exhibition team—named by its pilots after a Manhattan nightclub—turned 65 this year. The team has flown more than 10 different aircraft in its history, starting with four Grumman F6F-5 Hellcats flown in the "diamond" formation. Today, the squadron flies six modified F/A-18s. For more photographs from the September 21st airshow, see the Altus Air Force Base Web site.
