Into the Milky Way
One telescope and its 161 inches of mirror were used to create this 9-gigapixel, 30-foot by 20-foot image containing 84 million stars. ESO's VISTA telescope at the Paranal Observatory in Chile took a long look into the center of the Milky Way galaxy, using its infrared camera to see through most of the dust that would otherwise obscure the view.
