Take the Slow Plane to Paris
On this day, November 26, in 2003, the Concorde was retired from service. The supersonic transport was one of only two that entered commercial service (the other being the Tupolev Tu-144), and flew passengers from New York to Paris in about three and a half hours. The aircraft started European flights in January 1976, and began flying from Dulles International Airport that May -- above are two Concordes, in the livery of each of the two operators, British Airways and and Air France, on the Dulles tarmac that year. Of course, you can see one of the retired Concordes at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy location.

I WAS THERE. At Dulles I mean. On the day they pulled up nose to nose. Still have pictures here somewhere. Been meaning to post them. Now I'll have to look harder for them. One of may favorite "airplane memories".
