No More Mr. Ice Guy
While ESA's CryoSat satellite was designed to monitor the Earth's polar ice sheets, it turns out to be pretty handy for other applications as well. Scientists are now using data from the onboard radar altimeter to measure sea level in lower latitudes with great precision. In this image of Cuba, the island's bay and coral reefs are pictured in red, due to the higher reflectiveness of the calm waters.
