Not Cleared for Take-Off
The unbelievable smog in Beijing, China has been making the news the past few weeks, with the World Health Organization declaring pollutant density reaching as high as 20 times safe levels. The declining visibility has now started to affect air travel: The Guardian reported yesterday that Air China started canceling some of its flights out of the Beijing airport, and a smaller airport in Qingdao, about 400 miles away, was closed completely when visibility reached as low as 100 yards. The photo above is from Flickr user Bohan Shen as he sat in a plane last Sunday for at least an hour while the pilots waited for the air to clear.
