You Seem to Have Missed Your Orbit, JWST
If you plan to attend the annual South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas next week, you'll get the chance to see a full-scale model of the James Webb Space Telescope. Northrup Grumman will put the tennis-court sized model on the lawn outside the Long Center for Performing Arts, free and open to the public from noon to 11 p.m. Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10. You might want to stop by at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday for their Guinness world record attempt for the largest outdoor astronomy lesson, taught by astronaut John Grunsfeld. The JWST model has been making the rounds for the last few years. Above is the telescope sitting on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in May 2007.
