The World's Newest Rocket
Sunday's first launch of the Orbital Sciences Antares rocket is the latest step forward for NASA's commercial spaceflight program. The Virginia-based company will use Antares to launch its new Cygnus supply ship to the International Space Station in June, and after that will alternate cargo deliveries with the SpaceX Dragon vehicle under contract to NASA. Antares is the largest rocket ever launched from Virginia's Wallops Island, and is powered by engines left over from the Soviet moon program of the 1960s.
