Imaging Salt Ponds
The Autonomous Modular Sensor is the government-sounding name for a device that takes images that look more like art than science. Currently used by the U.S. Forest Service via an agreement with NASA, the drone collects data that tells scientists use to monitor "environmental conditions, assess global change, and respond to natural disasters." Above is an image of the salt ponds near NASA's Ames Research Center in California.
