ATV to ISS, Nonstop
The European Space Station names its Automated Transfer Vehicles, or ATVs, after famous European scientists and science icons. Jules Verne, Johannes Kepler and Edoardo Amaldi were the first ATVs, the first a test mission, and the latter two making their way into orbit to meet the International Space Station, where they delivered supplies to the astronauts living there. The latest ATV was named Albert Einstein; it launched on June 5, 2013 from Kourou, French Guiana aboard an Ariene 5ES, as seen in this tropical image here, and docked with the ISS 10 days later.
