Airline Pioneer
Barely a decade after the Wright Brothers' triumph at Kitty Hawk, entrepreneurs set up the first scheduled airline service crossing Tampa Bay in Florida. The pilot for the inaugural flight of the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line on January 1, 1914 was Antony H. Jannus, shown here lighting a cigarette while sitting on his Benoist Type XIV airboat.
