Comin' atcha

Polish photographer Mariusz Adamski stood his ground in August, 2008, on the runway center line to get this shot of a TS-11 Iskra ("Spark,") a training jet based at the Polish Air Force Academy in Deblin, Poland. He was using a Canon EOS 1D Mk III with a 70-200L IS 2.8 zoom lens. The airplane is a member of the Polish Air Force's flight demonstration squadron, Team Iskry, also called the White and Red Sparks Demo Team. Check out this video of Adamski working on the shoot, with the snap of his pant legs signaling the instant when the wake of the airplane, flown by solo pilot Maciej Kopiel, washes over him. For other great shots, check out Adamski's web site. He has released a couple books of his work, Where Eagles Dare, and Reaching for the Sky, which showcase primarily his air-to-air photos. His next book, The Passion of Flight, will include an introduction by Brigadier General Miroslaw Hermaszewski, the first Polish astronaut.
