March 11, 2010
Late in the morning of January 22, 2010, Smithsonian photographer Mark Avino pointed his camera out the window of an office on the top floor of the National Air and Space Museum and captured this shot of the National Mall's resident hawk. Here's a high resolution version. Avino was lucky enough to catch the bird as it alighted on the tip of Richard Lippold's 1975 sculpture "Ad Astra," which fronts the museum on the Mall side.

Very cool capture!
A great place for this handsome hawk to pick off a few tourists :)
