Grover Rover
NASA's newest rover isn't made for trekking the desert-like Mars landscape -- this one is roving ice sheets right here on Earth. GROVER packs as many words as it can into multi-purpose acronym, as both the Greenland Rover and Goddard Remotely Operated Vehicle for Exploration and Research. The solar powered robot uses ground penetrating radar to study the layers of ice and snow at Greenland and will be joined this month by another rover, Cool Robot, that will tag along with a package of instruments to further study the glaciers and atmosphere. (And yes, GROVER has a little Grover riding up top!)
