Clare Musgrove

Clare Musgrove was assigned to the United States’ 15th Air Force based in Bari, Italy, as a ball turret gunner for B-24 Liberators. In June 1944, his B-24 was on a mission to bomb the oil refineries in Ploesti, Romania, when the airplane was brought down by flak. In this video made in 2007, Musgrove talks about what it was like to bail out over a land he knew nothing about and of the Serbian family who gave him shelter while he awaited rescue.
