Oceans most likely existed on Venus, but boiled away long ago. So where’s the steam that should be in the atmosphere? New data from Europe’s Venus Express shows that an “electric wind” may have stripped it all from the air. Scientists don’t know why Venus’ electric field is so much stronger than Earth’s, but this information will likely be important when studying potentially habitable exoplanets.
