TXT-Speak at the FAA

The Web site of the Federal Aviation Administration, like most government sites, is pretty tame, but can be an interesting browse for prop-heads. For instance, clicking around the Flight Delay Information map, you’ll learn that at New York’s JFK International, “Disabled Aircraft…causing departure delays between 46 minutes and 1 hour.” Over at Newark International in New Jersey, “Due to Weather/low CIGS , departure traffic destined to EWR subject to ground delay.”

Scroll through the “Legends” key to the last symbol, a black circle, which “denotes a closed airport!” Love the exclamation point. Now I'd just like to see more detailed explanations in text-speak: “Airport closed due to a guy in a lawn chair powered by helium balloons in airspace. OMG!!! ROFL!!!!”
