"I had this image planned several months in advance of a month-long trip to the United States," says Ridsdale. "Bryce Canyon is one of the darkest, most accessible areas within the U.S., which meant I might have the opportunity to capture the Milky Way rising above the canyon. WIth a clear sky and a full moon that had set at 3:50 a.m. meant I had around an hour to make the image before the first light of a new day would seep through the sky. The feeling of being on the edge of the canyon in absolute darkness and looking up in total awe will remain with me forever."
