Stars trail around Polaris above the 800 year-old Lomaki pueblo site at Wupatki National Monument in Arizona. As the Earth rotates, stars appear to rotate around Polaris, the North Star, as seen from the Northern Hemisphere. Our north pole is pointed almost directly at Polaris, allowing navigation by this star.
