2nd Annual Air & Space Photo Contest
Phantom Pharewell

"I made this picture at the end of the 'Phantom Pharewell' event that took place on June 28 and 29 for the final flights of the German Air Force F-4 Phantoms," says Sweertvaegher. "At these big events it's very hard to take pictures that show the human side of aviation. I got very lucky when one of the pilots came back to thank the organizer of the event. There was happiness because of the successful event, and sadness because this meant an end of an era, and also the end of the military careers of some of the pilots."
