STS-39 Auroras

The STS-39 mission in April-May 1991 was the first Pentagon-sponsored shuttle flight to be unclassified, which meant the astronauts were free to talk about some of the experiments they'd done. Among the views they captured with low-light TV imagery were scenes of oil wells burning in Kuwait during the first Gulf War. (1:15)
