Gilmore Brothers

Starting in 1894, Lyman Gilmore constructed a series of gliders and powered airplanes in his barn in Grass Valley, California. There is no evidence, however, that any of Gilmores creations flew. But his lack of success in the air didnt stop him and his brother, Charles, from proudly showing off an enormous monoplane. Excited by his designs, Gilmore founded an aircraft company, even selling stock to investors. Video: archive.org (3:44)
